A short drive from the A21 High Elms Golf Course is a good commutable distance from most areas of South East London and Kent.
There’s a really interesting mix of holes on this course, some lovely tees to drive off, lively greens and difficult approaches that are a great test for all golfers of all abilities.
There are a few doglegs and little idiosyncrasies that mean you’ll probably play High Elms Golf Course significantly better better on your second visit; as always a bit of course knowledge is invaluable.
The high handicapper might struggle a little bit here, but as long as you play the course rather than the ball, you will enjoy it. More detailed course information can be found on The High Elms Golf Club site, this informative course guide provides some great advice on how to play each hole.
Many of the tees favor the big hitter and a decent drive will set you up nicely on most of the holes. The tenth is a good example, a high green defended by a few deep bunkers. The long sweeping dogleg right that forms the 14th will reward the well placed faded shot with a few extra yards down hill.
The shorter holes on this course are worth a mention I like the 8th, a good hole if you get the ball spin right, 200 yards off the tee, over shoot this one and your ball will head down a steep run off leaving you with a tricky up and down.
The 13th has a reputation as one of the toughest par three holes in London, really tight with out of bounds on the left, rough and bunkers defending a very tricky green. Depending on the pin position it’s a very difficult hole hit off the tee let alone to birdie.
In terms of facilities there is a decent putting green and a couple of practice nets near the first tee for a warm up. The pro shop is well stocked, reasonably priced and well staffed. The clubhouse building includes a bar restaurant and changing rooms which are excellently serviced and maintained.
My experience of the customer service at High elms has always been superb. Every time I’ve visited the course The staff were all friendly and genuinely interested in making my visit to the course as enjoyable as possible.
One negative aspect to this course is the lack of an immediate driving range. The short game warm up area has been converted into a dedicated footgolf course so pre-game warm up is limited to the practice nets. There is a driving range available at the Bromley Golf Club or nearby Chelsfield Lakes.
Overall it’s hard to find fault with High Elms Golf course, a very good and well maintained and excellently run public golf course, it makes for an enjoyable round. This is n accessible course suitable for players of all abilities.
High Elms Golf Course public park you have to be aware of the public footpaths. Also, during the winter months there are a few temporary greens. High Elms is an attractive course, a decent day out out that offers enough difficulty to suit a range of players.
